Meet an Author, Be an Author

Join fellow writers for an afternoon devoted expressly to Indiana's talented authors. Meet and network with up-and-coming Indiana authors. Add to your writing toolbox with workshops led by experts. No registration is required.

Workshops Include:

• 12:30 - 1:30 pm: Memoir: Translating the Unfamiliar, with Ania Spyra
  In writing memoir, we often come across layered events which only make sense in their contexts. This workshop, through dynamic writing exercises, will invite you first to notice how your very personal stories arise at complex geopolitical moments, often unfamiliar to your readers, and second how to convey their complexity without losing the tempo of your narrative to lengthy explanation.
  
  
• 12:30 - 1:30 pm: How to Self Publish, with John F. Allen
  This class is designed to help authors navigate the self-publishing world and learn the ins and outs/pro and cons of being an independent author! This course will cover what essential steps are necessary to make the transition from a completed manuscript or nonfiction book idea to book publication.
  
  
• 2:00 - 3:00 pm: Worldbuilding in YA, with Saundra Mitchell
  Worldbuilding is more than making up new names: it's creating the setting you need for readers to  believe in your story. This class teaches a quick but comprehensive method for masterful worldbuilding.
  
  
• 2:00 - 3:00 pm: Writing for Wellness, with Dominique Weldon
  In this workshop, we will respond to several writing prompts by sharing our thoughts with the page. You do not need to have any prior experience to join this class, only the desire to write your truth. Sharing will always be optional, allowing writers the fullest capacity for honesty.
